So you may have seen a certain video floating around facebook that you can view here. It's long, but it's worth the watch. It's a piece that the Fifth Estate on CBC did about how science is being cut off at the knees because it is inconvenient, raises too many questions, threatens our national income, or whatever lame and shitty excuse the government is giving. Science is the study of facts. FACTS! It's disgusting that because some facts are inconvenient - like say oh I don't know, our water is being polluted to the point that all ocean life is reaching ridiculous levels of toxicity and radioactive contamination - that instead of accepting it, they try to make it go away! To accept these facts would mean they would have to reinstate and police certain policies to protect and try to reverse these effects. I mean, it's only water. You know that shit we need a bunch of each day to stay alive and that we are mostly made of?
Now, I would also like to point out that I find it interesting that the CBC would actually do a piece on and air such an attack on the current government and their actions when they are a government funded company/station. I guess with all these threats and actual foreclosures they're experiencing, it's nice to give them a big ol' FUCK YOU! Now all they need to do is stop giving that capitalistic horrible excuse for a human being, Kevin O'Leary any air time. That guy should not be allowed to speak in public no matter how much money he pays people off with. If you need any evidence of this, watch the video where he can't actually engage in intelligent conversation with Chris Hedges about the occupy movement and then gets verbally spanked for being an ignorant ass. Here's that video.
Back to the video, I think I was most surprised at how blunt they stated when the problem started. If you haven't watched it, they flat out say that the beginning of the end was when that Bush idolizing, two-faced, nation pimping Harper was elected. I mean this is the man who has an entire cabinet made up of crooks, fought to keep ASBESTOS off the hazardous materials list, lifted the protection off of MOST of our fresh water in Canada and signed a ridiculous and SECRET trade agreement with China without consulting the general public. So I beg you, PLEASE watch this video, do some research of your own (don't just take my word or the first source you find's word as truth. Fact check everything!) and think about what you're supporting by staying silent or worrying about the small picture. Yes there are excellent job opportunities to go work for CAPP and the Oil industry in Alberta, but think about what you're supporting! Ever wonder why union workers hate "scabs" so much?
Another video that has surfaced recently and I can't share enough is the one of Neil Young slamming the Harper government and the Alberta Oil sands. That video is here. I love Uncle Neil. The man writes amazing music and he actually gives two shits about the country he came from and saving the environment. The thing that really ticks me off though is all the flack he's received for this and his concert series where the proceeds go to help the legal fight against the oil sands. People are saying that he should shut up and just go back to being a musician and that people shouldn't listen to him because he's not an expert on the situation. People are also saying he's a hypocrite because he has to fly or drive to venues and uses electricity for his concerts. This is one reason I hate ignorance. Just a musician? What better platform to express concern for a MAJOR issue than one of someone who is one of the biggest names in Canada? I hate that some people are so close minded and small picture seers (don't know if that makes sense, but I'm putting anyway :D). That argument is the same as saying the athletes who are attending the winter Olympics this year (whole other can of worms I'm pissed about [another time though]) that are homosexual should just shut up and do their jobs as athletes and not care that they are there supporting a country and it's economy that condemns them and makes their sexuality a CRIME! A FUCKING CRIME!! Nobody chooses their sexuality. Anyone who thinks otherwise should try and live their life not heterosexually for a week and tell me how that goes.
Anyway back to the flogging of Neil. I'm currently reading his book and one of his biggest projects which he was working on at the time (and I believe has now completed) was an electric car hybrid that was charged mostly by ethanol and biomass. It's called the LincVolt and I want one.
The ignorance that says, "Well you drive a car don't you? You're not against oil?" is one of the biggest issues I have in relation to the first video I posted today. How can we be researching new ways to rid us of our dependence on fossil fuels when their funding is being cut by politicians who are FUNDED by these big companies? We as a people need to start paying a lot more attention and need to become a lot more pissed off about how bad we are being FUCKED BY THOSE WHO SWORE TO PROTECT US!!!!!
If you're still with me at this point, thanks for listening. I was hoping that by putting this in writing it would make me feel a little better but it doesn't, unless hopefully it reaches you and helps you look into what's going on around us. I'm going to go make some tea and then maybe write some angry music.
Until next time!
P.S. On a lighter note; here's the video I put together for Misfits made up of video footage from the recording process at Chalet Studios and some gigs around Toronto.
