I'm no psychologist or anything, but I think that this instant gratification is affecting us as people in a lot more ways than we think. How many times do you see a meme on something and it agrees with your views, so you post it without looking it up to fact check? It's not very hard, google is right there. This has been going on a lot with the Syrian refugee situation. There is/was a certain meme of a gentleman decked out in army gear with automatic weapons and then a second shot of him as a refugee. The meme states that he is part of ISIS but was seen crossing the Macedonian border as a refugee. This was shared alongside a lot of similar looking posts by people who are scared and or angry. Being scared quite frankly is understandable considering it's being shoved down our throats about how in danger we are by the powers at be, but what needs to be done is people need to stop and think before reacting. This meme along with many others have been debunked as false, but I feel like it may fall on a few deaf ears. Like a certain non-issue about a head covering (that we need to stop talking about and I know that I am creating some serious irony talking about it myself) being blown way out of proportion to the point where a meme was made up of a driver's license with the driver wearing a niqab. This was shared a whole whack of times on social media and people wear crying about not knowing who could possibly be under the covering. The problem with that was that the license was CLEARLY a fake, they didn't even bother to change the sex from M to F on it. And before buying the crap Harper is spouting about saying that this is an oppression of women that they need to be liberated from, think about the oppression of telling a woman that she is not allowed to wear what she wants. The solution should really be to make an environment where a woman can choose to wear a garment or not based entirely on her own choice. That would be removing the oppression.
I'm personally fucking sick of our leaders justifying a lack of compassion and ethics with fear mongering and hate. I'm one with the mind set that if someone needs help and you are able to, HELP THEM.
I am so sick of the fear mongering.
Now, you know me, I'm not one to tell you what to do, but all I can ask is that you ask why or how? Take the Cons balancing the budget all of a sudden and using it as a leg to stand on to get back into the Canadian election standings. I saw a bunch of posts about how great it was and how impressive their skills were at balancing this deficit a year in advance. First thing that should've been asked is how? How all of a sudden did that happen? And then, after a little googling, it's right there. They used 1.8 billion from E.I. (which you pay into by the way) to balance their budget. And the shitty thing is that this is apparently common practice. The Liberals did it when they were in power to balance their budget as well. Does that make it right? Of course not, but it's what's being done. Just like there are minority targeted attack ads from the Conservatives saying that Trudeau wants to let your kids have access to pot and supports brothels. Or hell, even the fact that Harper himself stated that marijuana is, "infinitely worse than tobacco" when that's clearly not true when you do any sort of research. GAH! I can't wait for this election to be over.
PLEASE, if you haven't voted yet, make sure you get out and vote on October the 19th. Make the fear mongering stop and let's become a nation of peace keeping, acceptance and a country who actually gives a shit about the state we're leaving the environment in for our the generations to come. If nothing else, the 19th is (honestly) my birthday and if you want to wish me a Happy Birthday, please do so by making your voice heard by voting. If you want to chat with me about any of this and debate certain points, I'm all for it. All that I'm saying is what I've said many times before - ask why? Don't just take things at face value, slow down, look into it and react accordingly.
Let's get a beer.
Here's a shot of my lovely lady and I exercising our right and making our voices heard!!!!
